Transferring Religion Credit
To receive credit from an Institute of Religion, we need to receive an official CES transcript signed by the director of the institute.
- Subject Matter Requirement: Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, New Testament or the new cornerstone classes (effective Summer 2015).
- Residency Hour Requirement: You must take a certain number of religion hours at BYU, depending on how many of your credits transfer.
If you sign up through your institute instructor for BYU credit, your institute credits may transfer to complete the subject matter requirement, but not the residency hour requirement. Because Institute courses are given pass/fail grades, they won't count as graded credits needed for admission to BYU.
Religion credit that is taken through a CES school (BYU, BYU-Idaho, BYU-Hawaii, LDS Business College) may transfer to complete the subject matter requirement, but not the residency hour requirement. These classes will transfer with a letter grade.
You must take a certain number of credit hours at BYU depending on how many of your credits transfer. To see how many religion credits you will need to take at BYU and for more information, please visit Religion Requirements (if you enrolled before Fall 2015) or New Religion Requirements (if you enrolled after Summer 2015).
