Danish Language Certificate (9 hours)


This Language Certificate program is administered by the Center for Language Studies (3086 JFSB), http://languagecertificate.byu.edu.

Any matriculated (degree-seeking) BYU student who meets the proficiency and course requirements may earn the Danish Language Certificate. The proficiency requirement is met through the nationally recognized ACTFL Oral and Writing Proficiency Exams. Qualifying students will be awarded a certificate on one of three levels based on the following:

  1. Advanced Certificate: An ACTFL "Advanced" rating on at least one of the two proficiency exams and 9 hours of coursework with a minimum of a B- grade in each of the three courses.
  2. Mastery Certificate: An ACTFL "Advanced High" rating on at least one of the two proficiency exams and 9 hours of coursework with a minimum of a B- grade in each of the three courses.
  3. Professional Certificate: An ACTFL "Superior" rating on at least one of the two proficiency exams and 9 hours of coursework with a minimum of a B- grade in each of the three courses.

Required Courses:

Note: Students who have completed all of the coursework required for a language major or a language minor will also have satisfied the coursework requirement for the language certificate.

      DANSH 321 : Advanced Danish. (3:3:0)(Credit Hours:Lecture Hours:Lab Hours)
      WHEN TAUGHT:Fall Even Yrs.
      PREREQUISITE: Dansh 202 or equivalent experience.
      DESCRIPTION: Third-year course in Danish.  Developing advanced language skills in speaking, reading, listening, and writing as defined by ACTFL standards.
      NOTE: Entry course for returned missionaries or others with equivalent Danish language experience.  Required course for obtaining language credit by examination (Dansh 101, 102, 201, 211R).

Students who successfully complete a certificate will receive an official document verifying their level of achievement. The certificate will be listed on the university transcript.
