Minor in English (18 hours)


Program Requirements

  1. The English Department requires a minimum of 9 hours of course work to be taken in residency at BYU for this minor program. These hours may also go toward BYU's 30-hour residency requirement for graduation.
  2. Complete the following prerequisite course:
      ENGL 251 : Introduction to English Studies. (3:3:0)(Credit Hours:Lecture Hours:Lab Hours)
      ENGL 251 : Introduction to English Studies. (3:3:0)(Credit Hours:Lecture Hours:Lab Hours)
      WHEN TAUGHT:Fall; Winter; Spring Contact Department; Summer Contact Department
      DESCRIPTION: Introduction to the discipline of English studies, including the fundamental concepts and practice of literary analysis and critical theory.
      NOTE: Engl 251 fulfills the GE Letters requirement only for English majors and minors. Other students will not receive GE Letters credit for this course.

      Course Outcomes


  3. Complete 15 elective hours from 218R and higher. At least nine hours must be 300-level or higher.

Note: No more than 3 hours of any one R-suffix course may apply toward the elective hours required.
