Minor in TESOL K–12
(19 hours)


This minor is designed to prepare students to teach in public schools. A teaching minor may only be received by students graduating with a teaching major. In order to graduate with this minor, students are required to complete Utah State Office of Education licensing requirements. Note: Courses must be taken in sequential order and no more than two TELL courses can be taken in the same semester/term.

Program Requirements

  1. Grades below C- in professional education courses or content courses will not be accepted in the teaching major or teaching minor. Teacher candidates must have a cumulative 2.85 GPA in teaching major and teaching minor courses to qualify for student teaching.
  2. A multicultural course is required for this minor and must be taken before or concurrently with TELL 410. El Ed and ECE majors should take El Ed 202; secondary education majors should take Sc Ed 353.
  3. Complete the following core courses:

      DESCRIPTION: Processes and variables in native- and second-language development. How teachers can foster efficient acquisition of language, cognitive, and academic skills in second-language environments.

      DESCRIPTION: Practicum in teaching English to second-language learners.
