BA in Art Education (K–12)
(80 hours*, including licensure hours)



This is a limited-enrollment program requiring departmental admissions approval. Please see the department office for information regarding requirements for admission to this major.

Application deadlines: March 30 and November 30.

This major is designed to prepare students to teach in public schools. In order to graduate with this major, students are required to complete Utah State Office of Education licensing requirements.   1. Grades below C- in professional education courses or content courses will not be accepted in the teaching major or teaching minor. Teacher candidates must have a cumulative 2.85 GPA in teaching major and teaching minor courses to qualify for student teaching.
  2. Complete the following core courses:
  3. Obtain acceptance into the Art Education BA program.
  4. Complete the following additional first-year foundation courses:
  5. Complete six hours from the following second-year foundation courses:
  6. Complete nine hours of 300- and 400-level art studio courses.
  7. Complete one course from the following:

      VAEDU 276 : Introduction to Art Education and Exploration of Teaching. (5:4:3)(Credit Hours:Lecture Hours:Lab Hours)
      WHEN TAUGHT:Fall; Winter
      PREREQUISITE: VA 111 & VA 114 & VA 115; FBI fingerprinting and background clearance. Art education major status.
      DESCRIPTION: Field-based initial teaching experience directed at helping prospective teachers experience demands and opportunities associated with teaching secondary students.

      DESCRIPTION: Capstone, field-based, semester-long experience in teaching secondary students; demonstrating proficiency in all program standards. Seminar required.
